Susanne Kathlen Mader | Supersaturations | 12.05-21.06.2015
Oslo Kunstforening

In Susanne Kathlen Maders wall installations large geometric forms meet subtle lines and sculptural three-dimensional objects. The composition unfolds as a dissolved score, where extremes as balance and imbalance, heaviness and lightness, harmony and atonality play important roles. The works evoke associations to the Russian Suprematists Kazimir Malevich, the constructivist Wassily Kandinsky and the Bauhaus school.

In Maders non-figurative paintings color is the main actor. Mader presses the colors against a high saturation, approaching what is known in chemistry as saturation or supersaturation. It is an unstable condition where saturation surpasses its own balance point, like a coiled spring with the ability to spontaneously bounce back

A catalogue, with a contribution by Joakim Borda-Pedreira, has been published for the exhibition.

A conversation between Thomas Sæverud and Susanne Kathlen Mader will be held Thusday, June 11 at 4:30 pm.

Susanne Kathlen Mader was born in 1964 in Walsrode, Germany. She has a Master's Degree from the Art Academy in Braunschweig. Since 1998, Mader has lived and worked in Norway. In addition to having had solo exhibitions and been part of group exhibitions, she has had several public art commissions. At the Autumn Exhibition in 2013 Mader was awarded The Norwegian Art Association’s and NorgesGruppen Debutant Award for her work Events at a High Altitude (Hendelser i stor høyde).

Supersaturations has been shown at Mandal Kunstforening, Sandnes Kunstforening, Steinkjer Kunstforening, Rana Kunstforening and ends it tour at Oslo Kunstforening. At each exhibition venue a site specific work was made for the space. The exhibition tour is co-produced with the Norwegian Association of Art Societies, and is part of The Norwegian Art Associations and NorgeGruppen Debutant Award. Anne-Grethe Thoresen has produced the exhibition for the Norwegian Association of Art Societies.

We would like to thank our supporters Arts Council Norway, Oslo City Council and Advokatfirma Ræder.
